For the Preliminary task we were asked to create our own short film. The topic of our film was a professional football contract negotiation starring two main characters Jude Tighe as character 1 (The player signing the contract:Travis Scott) and Mr Thres as character 2 (The Manager to sign character 1) We choose this topic because we all like football and came to an agreement to do a contract signing.
Every piece of work working up towards filming helped us a lot for example we used 12 different sheets of paper for each scene which included on the sheets camera angle, camera shots, dialogue and diagram of what we should expect to see in the camera shot for each particular scene. We decided to only use one camera angle in our filming and that was for shot number 7.This was used for the point of view camera shot so the camera could see the perspective from Travis Scott (Character 1) as he was signing the contract. Also leading up to filming we took photos of the premises we were going to use to make sure they were in order and suitable for filming.
The filming itself went very well in my opinion as we did it within a good time period for how many shots we had to take.On the other hand for shot 2 and shots 7 and 8 we had to film twice as Character 2 messed up his lines of the dialogue.During filming we had a problem with the noise of other students in the background as there was a lesson going on in the class next to ours. This could of been helped however we had no idea this class was going to be there and not everyone could of met at any other time to record. All in all the filming went well and we got all the 12 shots that was needed.
The editing of the film was fairly easy as each clip did flow with one another once connected. Marking of each shot wasn't the easiest for example getting the timing of Character 1 (Travis Scott) hand on the door handle.
The Preliminary task meets the expectations of the criteria as all 12 shots were taken and different shots were used for it. Dialogue was also included and was at a high standard. In my opinion one of the strongest parts of the Preliminary task was the filming and editing and how it combined and collated together so easily. A weakness in the filming was a breakdown of communication of the second shot as the person recording decided to carry on recording and happened to get me in the shot.Another weakness is that we did not follow the 180 degree rule properly as the over shoulder shot had gone over 180 degree to the opposite shoulder of character 2 therefore making it not a 180 degree shot. However editing was a very strong point as it collated properly and came together really well to form a professional film.
A proficient evaluation of your PT task which, in itself, is edited to a satisfactory standard. You appear to have worked well as a group and this will prove to be a valuable skill as you move forward from research into planning for your own film opening.
ReplyDeleteYou have identified strengths in your completed PT which a a little too general - statements such as a strength being how the PT "combined and collated together so easily" lack focus and attention to detail. Try to move from general comments to specific analysis of the technical and symbolic codes which have been employed.
Can you tell me which part of the work undertaken for the Preliminary Task you enjoyed most, which you enjoyed least and, in both cases, why?
...on a separate note Jayden, can you please change your background to white and your default text colour to black. Your blog is a little difficult to read at times for a man of my age and failing eyesight!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the filming of the preliminary task as it was a good experience of directing and making sure camera shots were to a good standard. The part of the preliminary task I did not enjoy was the editing as I myself found it quite confusing. Okay sir I'll change my background.
